Almost Providence
A one-woman show, live at the piano
When I announced my first one-woman show Almost Providence in 2010 I wrote: “I think, modestly, that I’m on to something: define an autobiographical arch, hone the writing until it‘s as tight as can be, define musical works to illustrate it / underline points / bridge transitions, then memorize it and perform it. Grand piano needed.“
In Almost Providence, I explore my experiences of sexuality and lust, framing my adult history of relationships by sketching my childhood. I also delve into the experience of practicing and performing music on piano. It was an unusually immediate live art form—there’s an immediacy, an emotional nakedness about this piece: I had such a strong desire to tell my story.
